Jack Russell
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Dartmouth, Devon
Born on 21st of December 1795
Died on 28th of April 1883

Educated at Exeter College, Oxford, John Russell (more frequently known as Jack) became a C of E priest, and was Vicar of Swimbridge in Devon for many years, but it is for his sporting links that he is better known. He bred the eponymous terrier (reputedly from an animal purchased while he was an undergraduate) to dig out hunted foxes that had gone to earth. Hunting was his expensive passion, along with other sporting pursuits, accounting for much of the fortune his heiress wife brought to their marriage.
