- Favourite Briton.

Born in Oundle, Northamptonshire

Prout was a composer and organist who had a distinguished career as a musical academic, holding posts at the RAM, the Guildhall School of Music, and University of Dublin, and winning fame in his time as a musical theorist (some of his books still in use today). As an editor he worked on revising Handel’s Messiah after the rediscovery of the original wind parts, incorporating many of his own touches rather than adhering to the composer’s own.
