John Phillips
Born in Barnes, LondonBorn on 16th of September 1906
Died on 21st of July 1982
John Bertram Philips came from a rather privileged educational background, studying at Emanuel School in Battersea and Emmanuel College, Cambridge before taking Anglican orders, but he is remembered for the work that made the bible far more accessible for those of humbler backgrounds. During WWII he used time sheltering from the Blitz to translate parts of the New Testament into English that younger people in his congregation found easier to understand, work he continued for many years thereafter.
