BOOK WOODFORD HOTELS

Coventry Patmore
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Woodford, Essex
Born on 23rd of July 1823
Died on 26th of November 1896

Coventry Patmore worked as a librarian in the British Library for 19 years, his early promise as an artist and a poet sidelined for some time because of family financial problems. He eventually published his poetry and was soon drawn into the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. His poetry is very Victorian, espousing conventional values as he did in his political thinking – he was a somewhat reactionary Tory , though his conversion to Catholicism after the death of his first wife jarred somewhat with that side of his character. Patmore’s most famous work is the lengthy treatment of married love The Angel in the House.
