George Melly
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Liverpool, Merseyside
Born on 17th of August 1926
Died on 5th of July 2007

Alan George Heywood Melly as he originally was came from a family in Liverpool wealthy enough to pay for his prep school and Stowe education. Melly, after service in the Royal Navy, gained fame in several fields: primarily he was known for his jazz and blues singing, and through that for music criticism; he became an acknowledged expert on surrealist art (and a prescient collector); was in demand on chat shows for his witty and irreverent conversation; and a devoted fly-fisherman who paid for some prime salmon fishing with funds from art sales.

Brit Quote:
Rock and roll doesn't necessarily mean a band. It doesn't mean a singer, and it doesn't mean a lyric, really. It's that question of trying to be immortal - Malcolm McLaren
