Educated at Eton and Trinity College Cambridge, John Lehmann became part of the Bloomsbury Set, running The Hogarth Press with Virginia Woolf and her husband He also founded both the periodical New Writing and The London Magazine. Lehmann was a poet, but made a perhaps more significant contribution to literature with works on Edith Sitwell, Woolf, and Rupert Brooke, through his three-volume autobiography, and by publishing Elizabeth David’s first two food books.
