Born 1926 - Actor, screenwriter and director.

After his World War II service, for which he was awarded the Burma Star, he trained at RADA. His most endearing role is probably the eccentric Grandpa Potts in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Other films include Two Way Stretch and The Trials of Oscar Wilde. He wrote and directed The Railway Children.
