BOOK BOWDON HOTELS

John Ireland
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bowdon, Cheshire
Born on 13rd of August 1879
Died on 12th of June 1962

Ireland was one of the key members of what became known as the English musical renaissance, known in particular for his settings of poems by - among others - Houseman and Masefield, and for his piano music. He studied, and later became a teacher, at the RCM, where Stanford was one of his tutors, and Britten one of his pupils. His style is perhaps best described as poetic impressionist, music immediately identifiable as of British origin.
