BOOK CHACEWATER HOTELS

Jonathan Hornblower
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Chacewater, Cornwall
Born on 5th of July 1753
Died on 23rd of February 1815

Having worked for James Watt and Matthew Boulton, as did his father and brother, Hornblower sought to improve on Watt’s design for the steam engine. The result was a two-cylinder compound engine far more efficient than Watt’s version, but litigation over patent rights found in Watt’s favour, and prevented its exploitation. He also worked on a rotary steam engine, and an early poppet valve.
