Born 1775. Died 1836 - Physician and chemist.
Began studying medicine but had to give up due to ill health; turned to teaching and research in chemistry. His best known work describes experiments on the quantity of gases absorbed by water at different temperatures and under different pressures, became known as Henry's law. Wrote the successful Experimental Chemistry (1801). Elected FRS in 1808. Committed suicide at Pendlebury, near Manchester.
