Born 1919. Died 2002 - Composer, poet and folklorist.

Studied at the University of Cambridge. Took part in the Desert War of Africa which led to his poetic work, Elegies For the Dead in Cyrenacia (1948). After the war he devoted himself to the work of the folk revival, discovering the talent of Jeannie Robertson. Wrote many compositions including Freedom Come All Ye and The John Maclean March.
