Born 1910 in Cairo, Egypt. Died 1994 - British crystallographer and Nobel Prize winner.

Studied chemistry at Somerville College, Oxford. Studied PhD at Cambridge. Work included detailed analysis of cholesterol, research on insulin and determination of structure of penicillin and Vitamin B12. In 1964 awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry; only the third woman to achieve this. In 1965 admitted to the Order or Merit.
