Played professional football and trained as a jockey before becoming a Butlins redcoat. Began a career in show business making his first appearance on television on Sunday Night at the London Palladium in 1961. Has hosted a number of shows including The Des O’Connor Show and Des O’Connor Tonight and Countdown. Also has a successful career as a singer recording 34 albums and selling over 15 million records.
