Born Lancelot Brown. Established an English style of garden layout using simple means to produce natural effects. Influenced gardens of Blenheim, Kew, Stowe, Warwick Castle, Chatsworth and many others. Got nickname telling clients that their gardens had great capabilities.

Her father was the keeper of two lighthouses in Bamburgh, Northumberland, and in the early hours of September 7th 1838 Grace spotted the ship Forfarshire which had run aground on the Harcur Rocks. Grace and her father took a rowing boat and rescued the nine frightened survivors, thus making her a much-loved Victorian herione.
