Born 1950 - Archbishop of Canterbury.
Educated at Christ’s College, Cambridge. Ordained as a deacon in 1977 in Ely Cathedral. In 1991 he was consecrated Bishop of Monmouth and in 1999 he was made Archbishop of Wales. In 2002 he was announced as the successor to George Carey as Archbishop of Canterbury. He is a noted poet and translator of poetry. His collection The Poems of Rowan Williams, was longlisted for the Wales Book of the Year award in 2004.
