Born 1789. Died 1871 - Chemist and clergyman.
Son of the Archbishop of York. Studed at Christ Church, Oxford. Set up his own chemical laboratory while undertaking clerical duties at Bishopthorpe. Played an important part in the foundation of the Yorkshire Philosophical Society, of which he was the first president. Became canon of York in 1824 and in 1837 rector of Bolton Percy.
