Educated at Brimingham University. Co-founded the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool. Held a number of positions at the Royal Shakespeare Company including artistic director and chief executive. Has produced Othello, Romeo and Juliet and The Seagull at the RSC as well as The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Royal National Theatre and The Importance of Being Earnest at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
