Educated at Balliol College, Oxford. Served in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force becoming the youngest Squadron Leader of his day. Played a major role in the formation of Scottish Aviation Ltd. Held a number of senior positions in the RAF during WWII. Acted as intermediary between Rudolf Hess and Winston Churchill.
