Born 1786. Died 1850 - Locomotive engineer.
Assisted in the production of Puffing Billy, the world's oldest surviving steam locomotive. Manager of the Stockton to Darlington railway (1825-40). Built a number of famous engines including the Royal George, the Samson (one of the first engines to run in Canada), the first locomotive to run in Russia for the St Petersburg railway and the Sans Pareil.
