Born 1793. Died 1841 - Mathematician and physicist.
Was largely self-taught. Wrote An Essay on the Application of Mathematical Analysis to the Theories of Electricity and Magnetism (1828). Ran his father’s mill until he entered Cambridge at the age of 40. Stayed on after his graduation at Gonville and Caius College and wrote on optics, acoustics, and hydrodynamics. The George Green Library at the University of Nottingham is named after him.
