Born 1636. Died 1680 - Philosopher and clergyman.

Educated at Oxford University. Made Vicar of Frome in 1662, rector of the Abbey Church at Bath in 1666, and prebendary of Worcester in 1678. His most famous work was The Vanity of Dogmatising which attacked religious persecution making a plea for religious tolerance and supporting experimental science and freedom of thought.
