Studied in Holland and Italy. Friend of Christopher Wren. Responsible for new churches in London including St Mary-le-Strand, St Peter’s, Vere Street and St Martin-in-the-Fields. Dismissed in 1715 for his Roman Catholicism. Also responsible for building St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
