Gordon Ramsay
Born in Johnstone, GlasgowBorn on 8th of November 1966
Died in 000
British hero of the week April 27th 2009
Though Ramsay was born in Johnstone in Renfrewshire his lack of accent testifies to the itinerant lifestyle he had as a child, due to his father attempting a series of jobs in many locations.
In his youth a gifted footballer, the extent of his involvement with Rangers has been the subject of some debate, but any hopes of making a living in the game were anyway ended by knee injuries. His alternative was a life in catering, where in the inevitably nomadic early days of a chef’s career he made wise choices: working with Marco Pierre White at Harveys, Albert Roux at Le Gavroche, and both Guy Savoy and Joel Robuchon during a sojourn in France.
When he graduated to running Aubergine he made his mark rapidly, wining two Michelin stars within four years. His venture Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road won three in 2001.
Ramsay, energetic, forthright, and at 6’ 3” with physical presence, was an instant TV natural, his fame spreading in various shows, particularly Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Hell’s Kitchen, and the F-word - F for food, but playing on his regular foul-mouthed comments and rants.
Working with his father-in-law Christopher Hutcheson he has built a restaurant empire in London, the USA, Dubai, Ireland and beyond, the Ramsay brand helped by his growing celebrity. He is married to Tana, and the couple have four children.
Born 1966 – Celebrity chef.
Opened his first restaurant in Chelsea in 1998, gained its third Michelin star in 2001. First appeared on television in Boiling Point (1998) and Beyond Boiling Point (2000), now famous for his programmes including Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen. Awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to the hospitality industry.
