Born 1578. Died 1657 - English physician, discoverer of the circulation of the blood.


An English physician, who set up in London in 1602, is credited with discovering the circulation of blood with his publication An Anatomical Exercise on the Motion of the Heart and the Blood in Animals (1628). He was physician to James VI and I (from 1618), and then Charles I (from 1640). He also published Essays on Generation in Animals (1651).
