Born 1936 - English actor.
Studied at RADA. Made stage debut in Julius Caesar (1956) at Birmingham. Film debut was The Entertainer (1960). Became well-known in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960). His many films include Tom Jones (1963), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Dresser (1983) and Under the Volcano (1984) – received Academy Award nominations. More recent films include Washington Square (1997) and Erin Brockovich (2000).
