Won singing prize at a local music festival which encouraged her to study seriously. Became a professional singer at age of 25. First recital was a lunchtime concert at National Gallery. Appeared in Händel’s Messiah at Westminster Abbey in 1943. Took part in many British, continent and American concerts. Struggled against cancer during the last years of her life.
