Edward V
Born in Westminster, LondonBorn on 4th of November 1470
Died on 29th of July 1483
Edward V was born on the 4th November 1470, his father was Edward IV, and his mother was Elizabeth Woodville. He was born in Westminster Abbey, whilst his mother had sought Sanctuary during an unsettled time that had led to Edward IV fleeing the country to Flanders, and Henry VI had taken the throne. Eventually Edward IV took back his throne with the victory at the Battle Of Barnet and Tewkesbury, Edward was later given the title of Prince Of Wales in 1471.
Edward was at the impressive Norman fortrees of Ludlow Castle in Shropshire, close to the borders of Wales, when news arrived of his father's death, he was just twelve years of age. He was making the journey to London, with Richard the Duke Of Gloucester, who was the younger brother of his father Edward IV, and was placed in Royal Apartments in the Tower Of London until the time of his Coronation. Edwards' younger brother Richard, Duke Of York, was also moved to the Tower. Their uncle, Richard had been made Lord Protector of The Realm as Edward was too young to rule, and declared that because his brother had already been betrothed at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth Woodville, this made their marriage invalid, and duly made the two princes illegitimate. Parliament agreed, and it was decided that the princes were illegitimate, Richard was crowned as King Richard III in 1483.
The two princes, were never seen again, and speculation arose that they had been murdered, Richard III died in the bloddy Battle Of Bosworth, during the Wars Of The Roses Henry Tudor triumphant, was crowned as henry VIII and ruled for nearly four decades.
The tale of the princes did not end there, because during building works at the Tower, in the 17th Century, two small skeletons were found, George II declared that they should be buried in Westminster Abbey, they were placed in an urn that had been designed by Christopher Wren. Edward was never crowned and reigned as King Of England from April to June in 1483, and were to be known across the pages of history as 'The princes in the Tower'
