Born 1798. Died 1878 - English geologist and clergyman.


Became practising cleric at Ramsholt in 1821. Emigrated to New South Wales. Studied geology, mineral reserves and coal deposits. Credited as first to discover gold in Australia and first to report tin and diamonds. His work gained him the title of Father of Australian Geology.
