Born 1691. Died 1781 - English prelate and writer.


Converted to Catholicism as a boy. Missionary priest in London. In 1741 consecrated titular Bishop of Debra and in 1758 Vicar Apostolic of the London. Hidden near Highgate during “No Popery” riots of 1780. Writings included Catholic Christian Instructed (1737), Garden of the Soul (1740, still a popular prayer book) and revision of the Douai version of the Bible.
