Trained at RADA. Stage debut at People’s Palace, East London in 1939. Made his name in the film Simon and Laura (1955). Film appearances include Private’s Progress (1956) and Lucky Jim ( 1957). Well known on television as Bertie Wooster in The World of Wooster and title role in Lord Peter Wimsey.
