Political editor of ITN from 1963-65. Helped launch New at Ten in 1967. Moved to BBC as anchorman of Panorama in 1972. Editor of Daily Express before returning to ITN as newscaster. Won BAFTA Richard Dimbleby award three times. Knighted in 1984 and retired in 1991.
