William Bennett

Born 1816. Died 1875 - English pianist and composer.
He entered the choir at King’s College chapel in 1824, and then studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1826-36) where he wrote several prominent works including his overture to Parisina and his concerto in C minor, modelled on Mozart. He was made musical professor at Cambridge in 1856, the same year as becoming permanent conductor of the Philharmonic Society, which he continued until 1866 when he became principal of the Royal Academy of Music.
