The third son of Quaker John Cadbury the founder of Cadbury’s chocolate company, he took over the business with his brother Richard in 1861. In 1879 they built a new factory in Birmingham, and subsequently had William Alexander Harvey design the Bourneville village providing low cost housing for employees. George was a prime mover in setting up The Birmingham Civic Society in 1918
