An influential art nouveau illustrator, he became famous for his fantastic posters and illustrations for Thomas Mallorys’ Le Morte d’Arthur and Oscar Wilde’s Salome. He was the first art editor on the literary periodical Yellow Book (1894-96), and produced his own Book of Fifty Drawings. With Wilde he is regarded as leader of the Decadents of the 1890s.
