Born 1860. Died 1924 - English physiologist.


He studied science at Universtiy College London, and remained there for most of his career as Professor of General Physiology. Much of his research was carried out with Ernest Starling. His celebrated book Principles of General Physiology (1941) is regarded as a classic. He was elected FRS in 1903 and knighted in 1922.
