After studying at Edinburgh College of Art she went to St. Ives in 1940, becoming part of a group including Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. She was a founder member of the Penwith Society. She travelled regularly round Europe but mainly lived and worked in St Ives. Works held at the Tate Gallery include Island Sheds St. Ives (1940), Red Form (1954), Linear Abstract (1958) and Eight Lines Porthmeor (1986).
