Born 1198. Died 1249 - King of Scotland from 1214.
The son of William I, he succeeded to the throne as King of Scotland in 1214. He supported the English Barons against King John, and later signed a peace treaty with Henry III and married his eldest sister Joan (1221). His reign represented an important landmark in the making of the Scottish kingdom.
