Born 1869. Died 1959 - Scottish pioneer of atomic and nucler physics.


Educated at Manchester and Cambridge. Known for his study of atmospheric electricity. Devised method of tracking alpha-particles and electrons. Shared 1927 Nobel Prize for physics. Received Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1937.
