Sent down from Oxford for refusing to conform to Anglican Church. Imprisoned on numerous occasions, while in prison wrote the popular No Cross, No Crown. In 1681 obtained territory in North America, called Pensilvania. Planned and governed the city before returning to England to aid persecuted Quakers. Twice married. Wrote over 40 works and pamphlets.
