Cudworth is a large bustling village positioned on the fringes of Barnsley in Southern Yorkshire, and it is home to just over eleven thousand people. It has a rich and varied history dating back many centuries, growing from a small agricultural settlement into a large mining community where the nearby Grimethorpe Colliery played an important role with its growth and expansion until it closed, after the Mine was dismantled the scarred site was transformed into a large attractive space that visitors and locals can enjoy as Cudworth Common has a picturesque pond, interesting wildlife and woodland to explore. A stroll around this busy village will uncover rows of terraced houses and cottages linking with the past, a delightful village green and a church dedicated to St John the Baptist which was built in the 19th Century. There is a range of hotels and choice of places to stay nearby for those visitors who wish to linger, tempting pubs offering a warm welcome and something a little stronger, plenty of restaurants to choose from, whilst the High Street has a pleasing choice of shops to browse, and as Cudworth is only five miles or so from the centre of Barnsley it really is conveniently placed.
