Wroxeter is an intriguing village in the County of Shropshire, edging the eastern bank of the River Severn, five miles from Shrewsbury. History oozes at every inch as It sits on the site of the Roman City of Viroconium, which reverses the hands of time in an instant, the fascinating museum shares the story of the fourth largest Roman City in Britain. History lovers will enjoy wandering along the Cloisters at Haughmond Abbey, or maybe Shrewsbury Abbey will offer a chance to uncover it's past, this Benedictine Monastery saw Parliament gather here in 13th Century when Edward I campaigned against the Welsh, David II was condemned to death here, and Charles II and the Civil War left it's mark here. If more history is desired there is always the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury where a bloody encounter occurred in 1403. Or for a glimpse at beauty belonging to man and nature it has to be the Iron Bridge Gorge, where the Iron Bridge masterpiece is surrounded by beauty, or how about Blists Hill Victorian Town brought to life, by costumed guides. If that's not enough there is always the invitation to visit the Roman Wroxeter Vineyard which shares the tale of grape to glass, and even a chance to try one..
