North Shields is a town with an interesting past, on the banks of the River Tyne in North East England, home to over 10,600 people. Famed for it’s Mining, Ship Building and 13th Century Fish Quay, is just eight miles from Newcastle which satisfies the most discerning visitor. Perhaps a good place to start exploring the past is Arbeia Roman Fort which guarded the entrance to the River Tyne just a stone throw from Hadrian’s Wall, nearby Segedunum Roman Fort showcases Roman Baths and an amazing interactive Museum. Visitors will find St Paul’s Church an interesting experience, part of it dates back to the 7th Century, behind the church are the remains of a monastery that was home to the Venerable Bede. Fancy a dip with an adrenaline fix just for good measure, Wet ‘n’ wild has Flumes complete with light and toe curling sound effects. If that’s not tempting why not visit the Rising Sun Country Park which spreads across 400 acres and has lots to share from the Organic Farm, Nature Reserve, and Countryside Centre, Or for the energetic climb 137 steps to the top of St Mary’s Lighthouse for amazing views before exploring the rock pools for hidden creatures lurking on the beach.
