The parish of Vale is situated to the north east of the island of Guernsey. It consists of two separate territories. Vale Castle sits on the eastern coast of Guernsey looking out at what used to be the separate island of Clos du Valle. La Braye du Valle, the channel separating the island was drained and reclaimed in 1806 by the British Government as a defence measure. There is evidence to suggest that the castle, which was built somewhere between 1370 and 1400, was built on the site of an Iron Age hill fort that had been there since about 500-600 BC. Further evidence of the earlier inhabitants of the parish includes Le Dolmen de Déhus, which incorporates a dolmen deity known as Le Gardien. The area of L'Ancresse is outstanding, offering beautiful Victorian villas and some of Guernsey's oldest farmhouses; as well as golf, beaches, walking and boating at the Beaucette Marina. Also of note is Bordeaux Harbour, which was formerly a fishing harbour, but is now used more as a beach. The choice of pubs in the parish includes the Houmet Tavern at Grand Havre, Vale and Chandlers at Braye Road, Vale. Chandlers also offers live music.
