Wheddon Cross effectively forms one larger village along with Cutcombe, which is technically a separate village. It is situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park, about nine miles from both the coastal resort of Minehead and the town of Dulverton. The charming and popular villages of Dunster and Exford are close by. Wheddon Cross is the highest village in Exmoor National Park, at 980 feet above sea level. It lies about three miles South East of Dunkery Beacon, itself the highest point in Exmoor. Wheddon Cross and Cutcombe combine to form a thriving rural village, with a real sense of community. Its location makes it ideal for exploring Exmoor and so it is a popular tourist destination. Exmoor offers a massive range of outdoor pursuits, including walking, horse riding, cycling and fishing. The walks in the area include the famous Coleridge Way, which takes in some 36 miles of walks following the paths taken by the poet Coleridge. Between Exmoor and the nearby Quantock Hills, you will be treated to some of the most beautiful scenery in Somerset. Whilst in the area you can stay at the Rest and be Thankful Inn, a former coaching inn. Or Sundial House, a charming 17th century country cottage.
