Washford is a small village in the county of Somerset. It lies in district of West Somerset, along the A39 between Minehead and Williton. It is less than two miles from the Bristol Channel Coastline, on the River Washford itself. There a great many attractions in the area, even apart from the natural beauty of the county of Somerset itself. The West Somerset railway, a preserved steam railway, has a station at Washford. The old signal house at Washford has been converted into a museum for the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust. The site was derelict until the Trust took over in 1976, since then they have transformed the area into one of the best railway museums in the land. Also near Washford are the ruins of the ancient Cleeve Abbey. Washford is also close to the Quantocks hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is near to the edge of Exmoor, so it offers a wide variety of opportunities for keen walkers and Natural Historians. Refreshments can be found at the two local pubs. There's the White Horse Inn, a 17th century coaching Inn, which also offers en-suite accommodation, and the Washford Inn where you can watch the Steam Trains go by while sitting in the garden.
