Wadeford is a tiny rural village set on the edge of the beautiful Blackdown Hills in Somerset. It is close to Chard and the A303 trunk road that runs from Basingstoke in Hampshire to Honiton in Devon. The Blackdown Hills have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, reaching 1035 above sea level at the highest point. You can explore this area whilst using the four-star Haymaker Inn as your base. Overlooking the wooded valley of the River Isle, the Inn has undergone extensive refurbishment and has won several awards, including the Somerset Life Country Pub of the Year 2005 and Somerset Chef of the Year 2005. There are a huge number of attractions in the area, including The Wildlife Park at Cricket St Thomas (four miles away) – which offers a chance to see more than 60 species of animals. Also less than five miles away is Forde Abbey, with one of the top gardens in England. Ten miles away is Much Wenlock Priory, the ruins of a large Cluniac priory and the remains of a 13th century church. Barrington Court Garden is only about seven miles away with gardens created in the 1920's by Gertrude Jekyll.
