Set in undulating countryside between the Brendon Hills and the Quantock Hills, the picturesque village of Stogumber is a well hidden site surrounded by high ground. Situated down two miles of winding country lanes from the A358, Stogumber is a charming yet thriving rural village with many beautiful buildings. Amongst these are Tithe Barn, the Alms Houses, Seven Crosses House, The Chapel Arts House and The White Horse Inn. The High Street is a fine example of a typical old world English village high street with traditional buildings set on a slope. There are many other delightful traditional cottages in this picture postcard village. The church of St Mary the Virgin dates back to the 14th century and is built of red sandstone. The church underwent restoration between 1871 and 1907. The village also has a station on the West Somerset Railway. The station was reopened in 1978 and now operates steam train services to Minehead and Bishops Lydeard. Stogumber station has a charming picnic area dedicated the memory of Mr H Horn, who was stationmaster from 1978 until passing away in 2000. Bed and Breakfast accommodation can be found at Knoll Cottage, a converted stone barn set in four acres on the outskirts of Stogumber.
