Somerset's busiest and brightest holiday resort has long been known as the Gateway to Exmoor. With its many amenities the town can offer a wide range of holidays with accommodation from comfortable hotels on the slopes of North Hill to cosy cottages along the harbour front.
The wide sandy beach and promenade are linked to the main shopping area by the colourful tree-lined Avenue. Minehead is justly proud of its floral displays which have won it coveted National Britain in Bloom trophies. Regular summer band concerts in Blenheim Gardens and many special events including the Hobby Horse festivities in early May.
Attractions include sea cruises, West Somerset Railway, Butlin's Somerwest World and funfair, Aquasplash Leisure Pool, seafront and entertainment centres. The South West Coastpath starts on the seafront and there are many good walks from the town.
A short drive inland from Minehead will take you through the magnificent countryside of Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. With many thatched villages, parks, museums and historic buildings such as the National Trust's Cleeve Abbey, there is a photo opportunity around every corner. The area is rich with superb walks and for those a little more adventurous, horse riding is available. Population 10,000
