Situated on the Bristol Channel coast just a few miles from Minehead, Dunster has been described as one of the most beautiful villages in England. The village offers a wide choice of restaurants and pubs. Its oldest street is West Street which, although quieter than the High Street, has a florist, a kitchen ware shop and a gift shop, at the end of West Street you can also find the working watermill. In the 1086 Domesday Book, Dunster was listed as Torre, meaning 'The rocky hill'. The prefix 'Duns' may well be a reference to the Saxon Dunn, who held land nearby. Sitting on the edge of Exmoor, the town's main street makes a picturesque sight with its medieval buildings. The parish church is 15th century, and is considered one of the finest in Somerset. The town centre features an octagonal stone and timber built Yarn Market, built in 1609 at the height of cloth trade in the town. Dunster Castle provides one of the town's main attractions, perched on top of the hill overlooking the town and nestled in woodland. Other sites of local interest include the picture postcard beauty of nearby Gallox Bridge, a medieval packhorse bridge built over the River Avill
