Corton Denham is an ancient parish, formerly known as Corfetone, part of the hundred of Horethorne. It is situated in the picturesque Somerset countryside about three miles North of Sherborne and seven miles North East of Yeovil. This quaint village encapsulates all the charm of English village life and has featured on at least two calendars. The history of the village is ancient. Evidence has been found of Neolithic and Roman occupation, including Neolithic arrowheads found on Corton hill in the late 19th century. Roman coins were found in 1723. St Andrew's Well is a holy well which sits on the main road through the village and backs onto the hill just under the church. The spring itself seems to be further up the hill closer to the church. A cobbled path leads to the church from the well. The spot is known as a place of peace and tranquillity. If you are looking for a meal or somewhere to stay, The Queens Arms is situated in the heart of the ancient village. Surrounded by stunning countryside, this late 18th Century British pub will delight its visitors. You can enjoy a delicious meal or stay in one of the pub's stylish rooms.
